I couldn’t forget the day I first saw this video a few years back, showing michel camilo and his band firing away on this song “from within”, in the ground breaking latin music documentary video Calle 54. It was a jaw dropping, feet tapping experience for me, and I am sure that goes for many musicians out there also. Here’s the video again in case any of you missed it in the previous post.
[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXT07AnkYRE]The energetic El Negro on drums is nothing short of amazing, Anthony Jackson is definitely the best man to sit in as the bassist for this session. Seeing the three of them thundering away is like what many would say, “as if witnessing a miracle”……
I am sure many of you are dying to try out this song, here is the transcription on another recording of this song I have in his Rendezvous album, which is enough to give you a good idea of what to do and a head start to playing it. Also check out his solo I transcribed for you guys.
Michel Camilo From Within Transcription
It’s very interesting to analyze Michel’s solo over some basic 2-5-1 , or sometimes even only through a static chord. A solo that’s crowded with 16 notes, rendering a typical latin feel in it. Extensive use of the half dimished scale again through many of the the dominant 7th chords.
Enjoy and have fun…. 😀

October 21, 2007Hello.
I try to learn the “Within”,but my pc(powerbook)can not read the transcription.
Is there a way around to open the file?
rewsnat
October 21, 2007The transcription is in PDF format. I’ve check it and didn’t find any problems with it. If u still cannot open it, there might be a few possibilities:
– u dun hv adobe reader in ur pc, u shud install it
– u r using and older version of adobe reader, u shud upgrade it
If u still cannot open the file, the last option is for me to send the raw file to you which is in FINALE 2004 version. But you would need that program to open it.
Let me noe, always happy to help… 🙂

October 17, 2009I always do a browse the internet for any excisting transcription or sheet music before I start transcribing. So basically if u c my transcription uploaded here, it means:
a) I couldn’t find any original sheetmusic or transcription for the tune
b) The original sheetmusic or transcription is too expensive for me to purchase, 🙂

November 1, 2010E.G. “From Within” : composer: Michel Camilo. I have downloaded the “body” of the piece, but am interested in transcriptions of the Intro, montunas, and solos. I am prepared to re-convene my work on this…but you know…procrastination, laziness, instant gratification? Ha! By the way there are two “versions”: One is the DVD version from the DVD Calle 54; and/or the CD version. Any help or guidance e.g. to this would be much appreciated! April 7, 2011Did I read correctly? Do you have transcriptions of the solo(s)? I would be very much interested in getting them if available. I have spent countless hours working on this. There seem to be at least 3 versions 9out of many I presume) I have 1 where the Dm descending “powerfulchords” has the bass descending diatonically, but another where the bas descends by 5ths? Thanks for your help.

November 25, 2011FINALLY have come close to finishing two versions. Am going to have a friend help me “clear it up” via Finale, and make corrections, additions, etc. Hope to share next year. (This is e.g. “From Within”- Michel Camilo)
