Hi Pianologist,
many thanks for all your work! It’s quite enjoyable to have a look at it, let alone try and play it! Most of your stuff is out of my league though… But I do have a question: There’s a song called “Coffee Cold” by Galt MacDermot. It appears to be a landmark in funk (it’s from ‘66 or so). The composer is also the man that worte the total score of HAIR, a couple of years later.
Now the thing is, that I was really caught by the piano on this song. So I went out looking for the sheet music on this one, expecting that it would exist. Perhaps it does, but I wasn’t able to track it down. Perhaps you like it just as much as I do. Maybe you even want to write it down and post it on your blog. That would be extremely great. You can hear the song here on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXOFHgHD6qI
Whatever you decide to do (or don’t do) with the song, my advice would be: just listen to it. It sticks to the mind!
Kind Regards, Marcel

Hi Marcel,
I fully agree with you: “Coffee cold” is a ’sticky’ song! I really love it… and I want to play it with my piano.
Do you have any chance to find the music score? (since your post?) Or anybody else?
Thanks & Best Regards.

Hi WitB, No luck so far. I wanted to buy it, if only I could find it anywhere. Turns out, a lot of music isn’t available in stores (or perhaps I just don’t know where to look). So if anybody knows where I can find it, please tell me. All the best, Marcel

Hey,
you’re all so right. I found this song because I liked that sample in the song “the truth” by Handsome Boy Modelling School and I found out the original piece is even much greater. If anyone of you finds a possibility to get the sheet music (especially the piano line) on this song, you would make me SO happy!

Hello suleimankin, Im not very sure what you really meant by most complex bebop piano style, but if you are looking for something bebop and challenging, you can check out Giant Steps by John Coltrane.

Galt MacDermont has a song called “Coffee Cold”. I really want to learn to play this song. It’s such a catchy tune. Sheet music for this song does not exist. Let’s break this song apart and examine it. Please.

I’ve always wanted transcriptions of the solos in Traffics “Empty Pages” and Elton John’s “Sweat it Out” I appreciate your site. It’s always great to see the sharing of music. Thank you. If you’re interested, you can listen to the pieces I’ve included here, and offer your opinion if you feel so inclined.
Thanks again, Chuck
Elton John’s Sweat it Out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XF1THXZq6Xk
The solo starts at 4:54 and goes to the end, but is somewhat repetetive.
Traffic’s “Empty Pages” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxM5cNVEpwI
The solo here starts at 1:50 and ends about a minute later. Stevie Winwood at his best on the electric piano. I’d love to play like that.
I also like Patrick Moraz’ Jungles of the World, but couldn’t find a version of it on the web.

Hey, I need help.
There’s this one piano piece that’s been bothering me for very long now… It’s from the Final Fantasy series, but the thing is,I don’t know its title nor from which Final Fantasy it’s from.
I would do the transcription my self, but so far all I’ve been able to do is figure that it’s in D minor– my OCD prevents me from completing it– I want every sound I hear to be written down– but I’m no piano genius, I can’t tell a pitch by just hearing it.
If you would be so kind, maybe you could e-mail me using an e-mail address that you use (XD) and I will then reply to you and then forward you the song by e-mail.
My e-mail adress is mypenismightierthanasword@yahoo.com.ph
Thanks.

Thank you for these resources. Have you heard Chick Corea’s “This nearly was mine’ from his Expressions album. Have searched in vain for a transcription. Do you have one? Equally, Michel Pettruciani’s Rashid or Besame Mucho? Awesome stuff. Please let me know if you have another resources for solo jazz piano.
Kind regards and keep up the good work,
