Transcription of Nat King Cole’s Piano Solo on Route 66, with brief theoretical analysis.

The great Nat King Cole did a beautiful piano solo over popular tune Route 66 in this youtube video:

Here’s the transcription of his improvised piano solo in PDF format:

Observe the first few bars of the transcription, a motif with a length of a dotted minim was repeated a couple of times.

Towards the end of the solo, a group of notes, stacked together in fixed interval between each other, were used.

The result was a sound that’s somewhat similar to block chords.
